Channel 4 – Dispatches – Syria’s Disappeared: The Case against Assad
This documentary tells the hidden story of tens of thousands of men, women and children disappeared by the government of President Bashar al Assad into a network of clandestine detention centres.
In 2017, we were approached by filmmakers Sara Afshar and Nicola Cutcher to work together to create what eventually became this Bafta-nominated film for Channel 4’s Dispatches programme.
The film was incredibly hard to make, and a difficult watch, but has become part of the documentary record in the effort to prove Assad accountable for the disappearances of thousands of Syrian nationals by the regime.
The film has been seen in the British Parliament, the Hague, in the Neuremburg Courts, at the 9/11 memorial museum and in colleges and universities all over the world as part of an educational tour of the film after its broadcast in 2017.
